Negotiation is a way of communication, in which two or more parties aims to convey their message to each other and tries to influence each other. it is a process by which 2 or more persons or groups tries to settle their differences and since it is based on differences therefore a successful negotiation requires both parties to come to a common solution, and the final aim of process of negotiation is to provide a solution which must be accepted by all.

Why Having Negotiation Skills Are Important?

Regarding common question of why negotiation skills are important in this modern world, I would prefer to start by quoting a famous quote which is “you do not get what you deserve, but you get what you are able to negotiate”.

So negotiation skill is a must have skill in 21st century first. The purpose of this process is to see that whether you can get your interests met through an agreement versus an alternative.

Now since we know what is negotiation and it relevance in today’s world now I would talk about how to negotiate properly.

How You Can Become A Good Negotiator?

See the ability of negotiating is directly proportion to the interpersonal skills of the person who is negotiating, soft skills such as communication , persuasion or the ability to convince others and experience of working in a group are must have skills. So if you are lagging in any of them you should start working now to become a strong negotiator
also effective negotiators must have the skills to analyze a problem and determine the interests of each party in the negotiation. 

Some other skills required for becoming a better negotiator is:

  • Good listening skills
  • He must have excellent analytical skills
  • Person should be able to speak his mind rather than his/her emotions
  • Negotiator must have the ability to convince others by his way of talking
  • He must possess problem solving skills
